Christian Joy Lewis, Ph.D.
Dr. Christian Joy Lewis is a dedicated Street Academy alumna, passionate educator, and accomplished sociologist. Born and raised in the vibrant city of Oakland, California, she carries with her the legacy of Street Academy, having graduated in 2011.
Christian Joy's educational journey continued at California State University, Sacramento, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 2015. She went on to further her studies at the same institution, obtaining a Master of Arts in Sociology in 2017. Her commitment to academia and her passion for sociology led her to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), where she recently completed her Ph.D. in Sociology in 2023.
As a sociologist, Christian Joy specializes in race and ethnicity and sociological social psychology, striving to unravel the complexities of human interactions and societal dynamics. Her academic pursuits extended to addressing issues of racial diversity within organizations, particularly within higher education institutions, where she obtained a Certificate in Higher Education at UNLV.
Outside her academic pursuits, Christian Joy wears many hats. She is a dedicated mother, an author, a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, and an aspiring pianist, dedicating her free time to self-learning and musical exploration.
Currently, Christian Joy serves as a Research Data Analyst for the California Department of Education, where she leverages her expertise to inform educational policies and practices. Additionally, she has shared her knowledge and passion for sociology by teaching lower and upper-division courses at both UNLV and Sacramento State.
